Sermorelin (GRF 1-29) is a synthetic 29-amino acid peptide corresponding to the first 29 amino acids of naturally occurring human growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). It was previously approved by the FDA as Geref for diagnostic evaluation of pituitary function. Sermorelin acts as a GHRH receptor agonist to stimulate physiological GH release from the anterior pituitary.
Sermorelin has a molecular weight of 3357.88 g/mol. It represents the biologically active N-terminal fragment of the 44-amino acid native GHRH. The first 29 residues contain the full receptor-binding domain required for GHRHR activation.
The C-terminal amidation improves stability and receptor affinity compared to the free acid form.
Research Applications
• Neuroendocrine research: Sermorelin has been used as a diagnostic tool for pituitary GH reserve assessment in clinical settings.
• GH axis biology: Studies have examined pulsatile GH release patterns and somatotroph responsiveness to GHRH stimulation.
• Aging research: Investigations into age-related changes in GHRH responsiveness and GH-IGF-1 axis function.
• Metabolic research: Studies on GH-mediated effects on body composition and metabolism.
Gelander et al. (2012) studied Sermorelin effects on GH secretion in children with growth hormone deficiency in clinical trials.
Walker (2006) reviewed Sermorelin's use as a diagnostic agent for pituitary function assessment and its pharmacological profile.
Note: Sermorelin has a clinical development history, unlike many research peptides.
Form & Analytical Testing
Form: Lyophilized powder, 2mg per vial
Appearance: White powder
Molecular Weight: 3357.88 g/mol
Reconstitution Guide:
- For 1 mg/mL: Add 2.0 mL bacteriostatic water
- For 0.5 mg/mL: Add 4.0 mL bacteriostatic water
- Gently swirl until dissolved
Solubility: Soluble in water (~2-5 mg/mL), bacteriostatic water. Contains methionine (position 27); avoid oxidizing conditions.
Stability: Lyophilized stable 24 months at -20°C. Reconstituted: 14-30 days at 2-8°C. Susceptible to DPP-IV degradation in biological matrices.
Clinical Note: Sermorelin was previously FDA-approved as Geref® for GH deficiency diagnosis. Withdrawn from market for commercial reasons, not safety concerns.

Frequently Asked Questions
Sermorelin is verified at ≥99.0% purity via reverse-phase HPLC analysis. Each batch also undergoes ESI mass spectrometry for identity confirmation, LAL endotoxin testing (<0.1 EU/mg), and USP <71> sterility testing. A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis (COA) is included with every order.
Add bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) slowly to the vial wall. Gently swirl to dissolve — do not shake or vortex. Solubility: Soluble in water (~2-5 mg/mL), bacteriostatic water. Contains methionine (position 27); avoid oxidizing conditions.. Reconstituted peptide should be stored at 2-8°C and used within 30 days. For single-use applications, sterile water may be substituted (no preservative, use immediately).
Lyophilized (powder): Store at -20°C, protected from light and moisture. Shelf life: 24 months. Reconstituted (solution): Store at 2-8°C, use within 30 days. Critical: Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening to prevent moisture condensation inside the vial. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles (max 3 recommended).
The CAS registry number for Sermorelin is 86168-78-7. Molecular weight: 3357.88 g/mol. Molecular formula: C149H246N44O42S. Full chemical characterization data including PubChem identifiers, SMILES notation, and InChIKey are available on the Chemical Properties tab above.
Yes. Every batch of Sermorelin is independently tested by Janssen Analytical Laboratories (ISO 17025-accredited). Testing includes HPLC purity analysis, mass spectrometry identity confirmation, LAL kinetic turbidimetric endotoxin assay, and USP <71> sterility testing. Full results are provided in the batch-specific COA. Additional documentation is available on the COA/HPLC/MS and 3rd Party Testing tabs above.
Orders placed before 2:00 PM EST ship same day via cold-chain logistics with gel ice packs to maintain product integrity during transit. Most domestic orders arrive within 2-4 business days. Full tracking is provided. All vials are sealed under inert atmosphere and packaged to prevent damage.

Compatibility depends on your specific experimental design. Sermorelin is provided as a single-compound lyophilized preparation for maximum flexibility. When using multiple compounds, reconstitute each separately and add to experimental systems independently to avoid potential interactions during reconstitution.
